Word of the Year 2017 – Abundant

deut-32-2

I used to look back and reflect on the past year and sum up the year with a “word” based on everything that had happened.  Now, a few days before the end of each year, instead of trying to figure out what kind of resolutions to create and ultimately break, I pray about what God has in store for me in the new year.  I still thank Him for all He has done, but instead of a reflective word for the past, I ask Him for the “word” in advance.  As a prophecy of what is to come.  I can’t tell you how amazing it is to get this “word” from Him each year and to see how it has played out.  You should try it.  Simply ask God to reveal to you a word or short phrase that will sum up what he has for you in the coming year.  Pray and wait for his response and then watch God in action. You will never be the same.

Oh – I also ask for a Bible verse to go with this “word” each year too.  I forgot to mention that.  This part is really important to me as it gives me a scriptural foundation.  So – this year, 2017, I can’t wait to see what God will bring.  My word is “ABUNDANT”.  I got very excited as I pondered the word.  More than enough.  Overflow.  Gobs.  No lack.  Complete.  Plenty.  Then I started to wonder about the deeper meaning.  I wanted my scripture.  Was it OK for me to desire abundance?  To ask God for it?  Not in a name it, claim it way, but could I ask for the abundance of the Holy Spirit?  To live in and through me with abundance.  To overflow out of me?  My scripture confirmed my answer.  Deut. 32:2 “Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like ‘abundant’ rain on tender plants”.  Oh Lord.  Yes – this is perfect for me.  Especially with my songwriting – every song I write, I pray that God leads me to communicate His teaching and that His words fall out of my mouth.  But wait.  That’s not all.  (No – I’m not going to sell you two words for the price of one – hee hee).

I have my word.  I have my scripture.  Next?  Oh Lord, let me have deep revelation on what this means for me in 2017.  This is where it gets frighteningly scary but still so thrilling.  I thought of Abundant.  Rain. from my scripture.  Torrents of Rain.  Gobs of Rain.  Rain for the plants – for the crops to flourish – for the harvest.  Then I listened to this amazing sermon on “The Abundance of Rain” and how Pastor John Jenkins reminded me that in order to have an abundance of rain, there has to be a rain cloud.  A storm.  In order to get a Heavy Rain.  Abundant Rain.  There has to be turbulence in the air to create the friction in the clouds to dump the water out.  Am I still excited knowing a storm is coming?  It sounds weird, but Oh Yes!  Because I know my God is faithful.  I know He will be with me through any storm.  His word, and my 2017 “word” will give me strength and help me prepare.  Rain is coming.  Abundant Rain.  Holy Spirit Fall Like Rain!   Amen?

Happy Father’s Day – My Father’s Hand

I was thinking about my Daddy today and how much I miss him on Father’s Day.  Since he’s now enjoying his time with Jesus and the angels I thought I would post this song in his honor.  I wrote it several years ago but I am still so thankful that both my Fathers in Heaven (God and my Daddy) still watch over me.

MY FATHER’S HAND

Verse 1
MY FATHER’S HAND WILL HOLD ME
SO SAFE AND SO SECURE
SHELTER ME FROM DANGER
RENEW AND REASSURE

MY FATHER’S HAND WILL TEACH ME
TO OVERCOME MISTAKES
DIRECT MY STEPS AND LEAD ME
DOWN ROADS THAT I SHOULD TAKE

Chorus
I LIFT MY EYES…TO SEE…MY FATHER
HE REACHES DOWN…TO ME…FROM UP ABOVE
HE HOLDS MY HAND AND SMILES
BECAUSE I AM HIS CHILD
AND WITH HIS HAND
HE SHOWERS ME WITH LOVE

Verse 2
MY FATHER’S HAND WILL GUIDE ME
AND SOOTHE MY BROKEN HEART
LEAD ME THROUGH THE VALLEYS
PROTECT ME IN THE DARK

MY FATHER’S HAND WILL CATCH ME
WHEN I’M ABOUT TO FALL
MY FATHER’S HAND WILL SAVE ME
MY FATHER’S HAND IS ALL

Repeat Chorus 2x

Word of the Year 2015: DELIGHT

Happy New Year 2015~ As you may or may not know, I pray about a “word of the year” each year.  I started doing it a few years ago when my friend Kathy and her husband Charles shared their words.  They take a look at the past year and reflect on the theme or message God has shown them throughout the year, and then share the word and insights.  It is very powerful. I started my own “word of the year” several years ago, but then I switched it up.  Instead of reflecting on the past, I thought why not pray about what God wants to say about the future year (as revolutionary as it sounded to me at the time, I do realize this is not a new concept or tradition, but the excitement of applying it to my own personal walk with the Lord, made it feel that way).

So, my first future word was in 2013 –  “Havre de Grace”.  I think back now and smile at that one – how in the world did I ever get that??  God of course, but the whole “Havre de” part.  haha.  (you can read about that word in my 2013 Word of the Year blog if you want).  And oh there was such a revelation of Grace that year.  It really was my haven.  Last year, my word was “JOY”.  I guess God knew I needed more of it.  Finding JOY in “everything” is hard so instead I just tried to keep my focus off of “everything” and on the One that gave me JOY instead.  Jesus.  I’m not saying that was easy either as there are so many things that vie for attention.  But He surely did bring JOY!

So now for this year.  2015.  The word — “DELIGHT”.  The application?  Well, for starters I couldn’t pass that word by without thinking about Psalm 37:4 “DELIGHT yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.”  But the Lord wouldn’t release just that aspect of the word to me so as I researched “DELIGHT” in the Bible and concordance, I found another angle that truly brought tears (yep — of JOY) to my eyes.   He surely wants us to “DELIGHT” in Him but do you realize how many times He “DELIGHTS” in us.  I can’t imagine why.  With all our faithless disobedience, self-centered pride, selfish ambition…but he does.  Prov 11:20 says “…the Lord DELIGHTS in those whose ways are blameless.”  Prov 12:22 “…but he DELIGHTS in people who are trustworthy.”  Prov 14:35 “A king delights in a wise servant.”  The cool thing is – He DELIGHTS in me.  He DELIGHTS in you if you are his child.  Just because.   That’s just the way he is.   He is GOD.  I don’t understand it either but the challenge will be to rest in his DELIGHT.  I’ll be praying for you too — that you are a “DELIGHT” and that you know God is “DELIGHTED” in you too!

Embracing Grace One Note at a Time and have a “DELIGHTFUL” year!

A Tale of Two Diets

For those of you who struggle with worshipping the gods of the scale or the mirror like I have – please let Paige’s short read inspire you to cast this idolatry aside and rest completely in God’s Grace.

My Story, My Song

scale

There once was a girl (that’d be me) who took two journeys (that’d be the diets) down very different paths that seemed to lead to a similar destination: un-fulfillment.

The first diet I “went on” started out with a points system and gave me the first taste of weight-loss and others’ reactions to the weight loss. This diet turned into a run-til-you-can’t-go-anymore-and-then-walk-around-half-starved journey that resulted in a weight loss of nearly 25 pounds, which was very substantial for me. I felt like the results were great. Other people noticed and commented, and I vowed to never gain the pounds back. I weighed many, many times a day and never cheated on my diet, even researching nutrition facts of certain restaurants before going out to eat. I looked in the mirror every time I passed, checking out my image from all angles (you know you’ve done it, too). But I did have a…

GraceNotes: I FIND GRACE

Song Link Below:  I FIND GRACE:

Wow!  2014 has been a very difficult year.  Depression hit many.  For me, it started in January when the Lord took my precious Daddy home.  I am thankful he is in Heaven now and not in pain with cancer but oh how I miss him.  Robin Williams found his relief from depression with suicide this year.  It saddens me to see Satan win at convincing someone it is too late.  Too late to change.  Too late to act.  Too late to make it one more day.  The enemy capitalizes on those lies with more discouragement and deception.  But GOD is bigger than Satan and is able to lift that spirit of despair with a garment of praise so I pray that you “Do Not Let The Enemy Steal Your JOY”.

I wrote this latest song called “I Find Grace” for my sister Rachelle who was also struggling through depression this year.  She recorded it a few months ago.  I wanted to wait to release it until we had the video done, or until it was released on radio (coming March 2015) but after reading about another friend on Face Book who labored through suicidal thoughts, I just could not wait.  Not that a song is going to change the world.  But GRACE can.  And we need Grace – NOW.  So, if you are feeling helpless, or hopeless, like you have no purpose, please close your eyes and rest in knowing that “in your weakness, He is strong”.  I pray that as you listen to this song that God’s Grace consumes you.  That nothing in this world overwhelms you except the love and mercy of God.  May God Bless YOU and as you Embrace Grace in 2015 — One Note at a Time.

I FIND GRACE
(Dedicated to my sister Rachelle)

VERSE 1
What do I do when I feel like dyin’….. There’s not a day I can’t stop cryin’
Everything…overwhelms my life
All the voices that I’m hearin’…..Telling me to keep on fearin’
There’s no hope….just give up the fight

CHORUS
(But) I find Grace at the cross…In my weakness You are strong
(So) I look to you each day…when I cannot find my way……
(and) I find Grace

VERSE 2
Every day I wake up prayin’…….I wanna hear your voice sayin’
Everything’s…..gonna be okay.
So help me Lord ‘cause I’m still fallin’….Darkness knocks and keeps on callin’
Tellin’ me that it’s too late

 REPEAT CHORUS

BRIDGE
There is mercy in your heart for the broken…
and Grace enough for me at your throne
I hold on to the truth that I am chosen….
And I rest in Grace alone
I find Grace at the cross…
I find Grace in Your arms
I find Grace overcomes…
and the Victory is won

REPEAT CHORUS

Bass Clef of Worship: Singing Glory To Our God

PraiseWorthy_Deb_NashvilleStudio

Last year I did a short Advent Bible study called “The Scriptures Sing of Christmas” by J. Ellsworth Kalas.  I wanted to be sure that with all the hustle and bustle during the pre-Christmas season, that I could carve out some time just to focus on Jesus.  After all, that is what the celebration is about anyway.

“Singing Glory To Our God” was a song birthed as a result of the 4 week study.  It took me to a new place of humility – one of a shepherd…who was honored to be at the original Concert in the Field (chap 2 of the study).  As I put myself in the place of this lowly one tending the sheep, I realized that I too, just wanted to run straight to the King and fall on my knees and cry out to God my Savior.  I wanted to bring something of worth, like the three wise men, but I had nothing.  No gold, frankinsense or myrrh.  So the Lord gave me this song to bring, along with my heart that sings.

Speaking of singing.  I normally only write the songs and get professional vocal artists to record them.  I know some pretty fantastic singers like my Mom who is an opera singer, and my sister, Rachelle Bleakley whom God has blessed with an amazing voice, and even my niece Rebecca who sounds like an angel.  But this song was different.  I write about a humble heart, but then I’m too prideful to not sound like a “star”?  Hummm.  Well, I am not the super star vocalist, that’s for sure.  But that’s OK.  Jesus IS.  He’s the one I’m singing too anyway.  So may this song encourage You to sing to Him too!  During this Christmas season, lift up your voice in praise and sing “Glory To Our God”.

SINGING GLORY TO OUR GOD

VERSE 1
A bright star led the way, to the Bethlehem babe
And Love came down among us
In the cradle of hay, we see the Christ lay
The Word became flesh, at Christmas

PRE – CHORUS
What can a shepherd possibly bring, to a King who reigns on high
But a humble heart, wrapped in adoration, and a song of joy and delight

CHORUS
Singing Glory to our God…Singing Glory to our God
Singing Glory to our God on high

Singing Glory to our God…Singing Glory to our God
Singing Glory to our God on high

VERSE 2
We run straight to the King, and fall on our knees
We cry out to God our Savior
Heaven’s angels sing, of God’s glory and peace
And adore the babe in a manger

REPEAT PRE-CHORUS & CHORUS

VERSE 3
The wise men were told, and brought treasures of gold
To honor the Holy King
But nothing I hold, is dear to behold
My gift is a heart that sings

PRE – CHORUS
What can this shepherd possibly give, to the King who reigns in my life
I bring a humble heart, wrapped in adoration, and my song of joy and delight

REPEAT CHORUS 2X OR 3X

Quarter Notes of Prayer: Daily Prayer (Lord I Need Your Spirit)

DAILY PRAYER (LORD I NEED YOUR SPIRIT)

VERSE 1
Early in the morning, when I come to you in prayer
Seeking wisdom, truth and guidance, for this day you have prepared
In the quiet of the moment, that I’m blessed to spend with you
Open up my eyes Lord, and lead me by your truth

CHORUS
Lord I need your Spirit
To walk in all your ways
To walk in faith and not in fear
To lift my voice in praise

Lord I need your Spirit
‘Cause I can’t walk on my own
Empty me of pride and doubt
And lead me to your throne

VERSE2
In my daily walk and journey, may your Spirit shine through me
May the power of your love, be all that people see
May the words you spoke to me in prayer, be revealed throughout the land
And may all your people everywhere, follow your commands

CHORUS
Lord we need your Spirit
To walk in all your ways
To walk in faith and not in fear
To lift our voice in praise

Lord we need your Spirit
‘Cause we can’t walk on our own
Empty us of pride and doubt
And lead us to your throne

VERSE3
And as I pray for all your people, across the nations far and near
I ask for peace between us Lord, that we would walk in love not fear
That we would elect leaders that heed the words you say
Who walk with you in Holy fear, and trust you each and every day

REPEAT CHORUS
